Phillip A. Sorensen, 46, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Saturday, September 2, 2006 at his residence.
Phillip Allen Sorensen was born June 22, 1960 in Audubon, Iowa, the son of Merlin and Doris Mae (Jensen) Sorensen.
Phil grew up in Exira, Iowa and graduated from the Exira High School in 1978. He attended the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls for one year. Phil also attended ECPI Computer School in Omaha, Nebraska for 6 months.
On July 11, 1980, Phillip married Debbie Bouchard in Atlantic, Iowa, where he lived for the remainder of his life.
Phil was raised in the Lutheran religion and joined the Catholic Church, after his marriage.
He was employed by Oakland Foods in Oakland, Iowa until the plant closed. Phil then went to work for Beef America in Millard, Nebraska until its closing. He worked at Jaydon and Harkers in Atlantic for a short time before going to work for RoMech Industries in Red Oak, Iowa, where he had worked for the past 13 years.
Phil loved to watch Nascar and was a huge Dale Earnhardt fan. He attended five Nascar races at the Michigan International Speedway. For the past three years, Phil enjoyed watching his son, Matthew, race 4-Wheelers around the State of Iowa. He was very proud of his son's racing abilities.
He is survived by his wife, Debbie Sorensen of Atlantic, Iowa; his son, Matthew Sorensen; his two daughters, Sara Mullin and her husband, Jason, of Atlantic, Iowa and Hilary Sorensen, also of Atlantic, Iowa; a grandson, Jackson Mullin of Atlantic, Iowa; two sisters, Suzanne Kuehl and her husband, Denny of Panora, Iowa, Linda Tibben and her husband, Steve of Cedar Falls, Iowa;his mother, Doris Jorgensen and Marvin Jorgensen of Exira, Iowa. He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Carroll and Dorothy Bouchard of Atlantic, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Chris and Amy Bouchard of Treynor, Iowa; brother and sister-in-law, Curt and Ann Bouchard of Ankeny, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by father, Merlin Sorensen; his grandparents, Peter and Agnes Sorensen and Chris and Nina Jensen.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, September 5, 2006 in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic. Father Dan Siepker of Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, will officiate.
Visitation with the family is scheduled for Tuesday, beginning at 1:00 p.m. and continuing until service time at 2:00 p.m. at Hockenberrys. Fellowship and lunch will follow in the Community Room at Hockenberry Family Care.
A private family burial of ashes will take place in the Exira Cemetery, Exira, Iowa.
