Phyllis L Bruun, the daughter of William and Mildred (Kempf) Murray, was born July 22, 1938, in Carroll, Iowa, and died February 13, 2026, at Copperwood Senior Living in Ankeny, Iowa, at the age of 87 years, 6 months, 22 days.
Phyllis was baptized and confirmed at the Presbyterian Church in Audubon. She attended a rural school in Melville Township, Audubon County, and then graduated from Audubon High School with the Class of 1957.
On May 7, 1960, she was united in marriage to Jens Bruun at the Presbyterian Church in Audubon. They were blessed with three children Amy, James, and Tom. Jens and Phyllis moved to Onawa, Iowa in 1966. Phyllis worked as a secretary for Case Power and Equipment until at the age of 37. At this time, she enrolled into college. After earning her Registered Nursing Degree, Phyllis worked for Burgess Health Center in Onawa as the Director of Utilization until she retired.
Phyllis was an avid bridge player and enjoyed traveling with her husband.
After retirement, Jens and Phyllis moved to Council Bluffs for 10 years, then decided to move back to their hometown, Audubon, for 10 years, before moving to a senior living center in Ankeny in November 2024.
Proceeding her in death were her sister and brother-in-law, Mary and Marvin Lange, and her parents.
Survivors include her husband Jens Bruun of Ankeny, Iowa; her children Amy Bruun of Grimes, Iowa, James Bruun of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and Tom Bruun of Ankeny, Iowa; her 4 grandchildren; Katie Broshuis of Ankeny, Iowa, Beau Broshuis of Waukee, Iowa, Derek Bruun and fiancé Carolyn Jennrich of Nashville, Tennessee, and Shelby Bruun and fiancé Collin McElvain of Austin, Texas.
Public visitation with the family will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00, on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Audubon.
A graveside service will follow the visitation at Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon.
Memorials may be directed to the Phyllis Bruun Family. They will be designated at a later date and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 201, Audubon, IA 50025.
