Richard “Ricky” Grimes, age 71 of Whiting, Iowa and formerly of Adair, Iowa, died at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting. He was born the son of Lloyd and Mildred Grimes on October 4, 1952, in Lee Summitt, MO.
Ricky as the family called him, lived in a group home in Higginsville, MO until 2006 when he moved to Shelby, Iowa following his stepmother’s passing (Helen June Grimes) and his father moving to Adair, Iowa.
The last three months of Ricky’s life, he lived at Pleasant View Care Center in Whiting, IA. Ricky always greeted his guest at his home with a shirt, tie and top hat on. He enjoyed going fishing, going to the movies and whenever he was able to eat out with family, he enjoyed a simple hamburger, Fries and a shake. Occasionally, would have soda and eat cookies.
Whenever you went to visit, you had to have a couple dollars and coloring books, he loved to spend hours coloring in them.
He was preceded in death by his parents, and his stepmother. Ricky is survived by his many cousins.
Graveside services will be held at 11 am, Saturday, February 25, 2023, at Sunny Hill Cemetery near Adair, Iowa with Rev. Garry DeGeest officiating. Burial will follow. Memorials can be made to the donors’ choice and mailed to P.O. Box 523 – Atlantic, Iowa.
