Richard Peterson

Richard “Dick” Peterson, 85, of Anita, IA, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2019, at his home in Anita. Richard was born February 5, 1934, to A. Faye and Ruth (Wahlert) Peterson east of Anita. Richard attended country school through eighth grade and then Anita High School graduating from there in 1952.

Richard enlisted in the Air Force and served a four year term from 1952-1956. Following the service, on February 4, 1958, he married Anne Murphy. Together they have three children, daughter Teresa (Scott) Peterson-Smith of Boone, IA, and sons Brian (Sandy) Peterson of Fairfield, IA, and Bruce Peterson of Anita, IA

Richard farmed most of his life. He and his two sons helped Delmar Walker build the house they lived in for 33 years on the farm. When they moved off the farm in 2013 they moved to their current home in Anita.

After retirement Richard built many objects out of wood. He became quite the accomplished woodworker. He enjoyed playing cards, and took up golf later in life and ended up becoming a member at Crestwood Hills Golf Course. He was also a member of the Methodist Church in Anita and the American Legion Post 210.

Preceding Richard in death are two brothers, Charles and Robert, along with two sisters, Carol and Wilma.

Richard is survived by his wife Anne of Anita, and his three children.

A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 30, 2019, at the United Methodist Church in Anita, IA, with the interment to follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Anita.

Visitation will take place from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m. Sunday, December 29, 2019, at the Hockenberry Funeral Home in Anita, IA.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be designated to the Anita Library, Evergreen Cemetery, or the Methodist Church in Anita.

Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Anita, IA, is in charge of the arrangements.
