Richard Sorensen

July 30, 1954 — October 13, 2019

Richard (Rick) Lee Sorensen, 65, of Atlantic, IA, was born on July 30, 1954, to Helen Elaine Sorensen (Beck). He was a lifelong resident of Atlantic and was proud of being raised in “Bucktown”. He grew up living with his grandpa, George Snow, hunting, fishing and trapping. He had many fond memories of time spent at the “fur shed”.

He married Linda Jane Juhl on July 17, 1983, and gained two children from the union, Amber and Michael. Daughter Gwynne Marie Sorensen arrived on December 14, 1983.

Richard spent most of his working years driving trucks, both over the road and locally, spending many years at Henningsen Construction.

In his free time, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, riding motorcycles, and playing in pool leagues. Rick loved to laugh and tease the people in his life. He was an amazing story teller and would often tell the same stories numerous times. He loved his cigars and was always fun to be around. He will always be remembered as a fun, loving, ornery yet caring father and grandfather.

He is preceded in death by his grandparents, George and Lucille Snow; mother, Elaine Sorensen (Beck); brother, Steven Beck; and family members, Eugene Sorensen, and Roy and Nina Beck.

He is survived by his brothers, Darwin and Devin; and sisters, Dory, Daleen, and Renea; his children, Gwynne Sorensen (Aaron), Michael (Crystal) Porter, and Amber (Jay) Jensen; and longtime wife and friend, Linda Sorensen. He is survived by many grandchildren; Dazia, Evan, Eian, and Gavin Sorensen, Destiny, Jocelyn and Ashton Porter, and Kaitlin and Keaton Jensen.

Services will be held at the Atlantic Elks Lodge #445 at 411 Walnut Street on Saturday, October 19, 2019, from 2-4pm.

Per Rick’s wishes, he will be cremated. In lieu of flowers, cards may be sent to his daughter, Gwynne at 1007 East 3rd Street Place in Atlantic, Iowa.

Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is in charge of arrangements.
