Mr. Ronald Eugene Feuring, age 82, of Atlantic, IA, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Allen Place in Atlantic, IA.
Open visitation with family will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, August 28, 2026, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA.
Ronald Eugene Feuring was born on December 24, 1943, in Kellerton, IA. Parents Elmer and Ethel Irene, along with his siblings, big sister Marilyn, and big brother Fred welcomed him with open arms. He always said he was his mother's favorite Christmas present, and meant it.
Ron was a character, probably since birth. His sense of humor and quick wit got him far in life for sure. He met his first wife Lana Lyons, while attending Perry High School. From this union, he fathered two children, Keven and Christal. He enlisted in the United States Air Force after marrying Lana and was stationed in Mass, Germany as well as Japan. They raised the kids in Gray, IA. During this time, he had his own plumbing business in Templeton, IA for a few years. He also was a feed salesman for Walnut Grove, a plumber for Burr Plumbing, as well as a maintenance man for Cass County Memorial Hospital. His work life took many different directions after the end of his first marriage. He worked on big HVACs for a few years in Des Moines, IA, and later at Ameristar Casino in Council Bluffs, IA. His last employment was working for his son, delivering customized apparel, until his retirement.
He met his second wife, Pamela Knight, at a dance in Corley, IA. She truly was the love of his life; love-struck teenagers from a novel every day right up to his last moments. The love and devotion he showed her was undeniable. They spent twenty-four years together residing in Council Bluffs, IA.
Ron was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan as well as a NASCAR fan. He loved to dance, from square dancing to line dancing. He loved his family, flirting with the ladies, and fishing. Ron loved the outdoors, whether it be fishing, camping, mushroom hunting, gardening, or riding motorcycles. He loved to travel, including numerous years of walleye fishing trips up to Minnesota with his high school buddies. He was adventurous, smooth-talking, ornery, stubborn as a mule, and loved his daily ice cream treats.
He was inappropriate at times, sarcastic, and a huge teddy bear all at the same time. He smoked like a chimney, cussed like a sailor, and always made life just a little more interesting. Above all, he was a dedicated and loving father, and the best brother you could ask for. The world will never have another like him and life won't be the same without him.
Ron was preceded in death by his parents, Elmer Feuring and Ethel Irene, and his son-in-law, Scott Sullivan.
After being diagnosed with stage four lung cancer, Ron lived life to the fullest. Spending most days with Pam, he managed to still go fishing two more times in South Dakota. He was, is, and always will be the best father we could have ever asked for and we thank God he was ours. We will cherish every memory we got with him because, quite honestly, the guy was simply unforgettable.
Arrangements are held with the Schmidt Family Funeral Home of Atlantic.
