Ronald John Swanson, son of William & Anne (Heuss) Swanson, was born on January 14th, 1941, and went to be with the lord on December 2nd, 2025, at the age of 84 at the Friendship Home in Audubon, IA.
Ron was baptized at the Plymouth Congregational Church in Ross, Iowa. He attended Rural School Leroy number two south of Ross. He graduated from Audubon High School in 1960. On March 2nd, 1963, he was united in marriage to Shirley Swanson at Our Savior's Lutheran Church. To this union, two children were born: Robin Renee & Lori Linn.
Ron & Shirley farmed in Audubon County for 62 years. Ron deeply enjoyed farming and farmed into his eighties. Ron was passionate about raising calves, spending time with his grandchildren, tractor pulls, socializing with family and friends, collecting and restoring vintage tractors (John Deere & Allis-Chalmers), and showing off his prized tractors in parades. He kept busy with field work, hay production, & feeding cattle.
Ron was a loving husband, father, and grandfather who will be greatly missed. He was preceded in death by his wife, Shirley; his parents, William & Anne Swanson; his brother, Bill Swanson; his sister, Carol & Bill Honeck; and his daughter, Robin Kilgore.
Survivors include his daughter, Lori Groteluschen; son-in-law, Paul Groteluschen; son-in-law, David Kilgore; grandchildren, Aaron Kilgore (wife, Brittany), Austin Kilgore, Hunter Groteluschen, & Peyton Groteluschen; a sister-in-law, Doreen Swanson; and many other family members & friends.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 am, Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Audubon. Private family burial will follow at the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. A visitation with the family present will be held from 9 am until the time of services at the funeral home on Friday. A reception will follow the funeral service at St. Patrick's Parish Hall in Audubon.
