Roxanne "Roxie" Pross

Roxanne Pross passed away on May 31st, 2019, after a long, hard fought battle with brain cancer. Roxie was born March 30, 1966 in Colorado Springs, CO to Bernie and Carol (Speaker) Elliott. After graduating from Atlantic High School in 1984, Roxie married Jeffrey Pross in November of 1986. Together, they had two children, Christopher and Stephanie.
Roxie began working in the dietary department at Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa. This would help ignite her passion for nutritional services, leading her to study Dietary and Nutritional Management at North Dakota State University, graduating in 2011. She then furthered her career as the Nutritional Director at The Friendship Home in Audubon, IA, where she is remembered for her displays of true compassion for all of the residents.
Roxie was also known for her ability find the joy in even the simplest things in life: whether it was restoring antique furniture, traveling near and far (at any moment’s notice and without much announcement), riding in her jeep or spending time with close friends and family (both human and canine alike). While she will be remembered for her benevolence, she will also be remembered for her strength. She was a breast cancer survivor prior to her most recent brain cancer diagnosis. While she spent over two years suffering, she never let that get in her way of helping others. She continued to spread kindness and love to those around her, despite her own personal fears and hurdles. She always managed to keep a positive outlook on what was ahead of her.
Roxie is survived by her son Christopher Pross (Amanda), daughter Stephanie Santana (Wallace), grandchildren Jaxon and Rylinn Pross, her parents, siblings Candie Elliott, Bernice Baier (Gary), and Andy Elliott (Laura Lou Wilson), and her honorary son, Matt Pelzer.
The family will meet with friends Friday morning from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the Atlantic Gospel Church, 104 East 13th Street, Atlantic, Iowa. The Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be conducted by Ned Brown at 11:00 a.m. at the Atlantic Gospel Church. Distribution of the cremains will be at a later date.
