Ruth Evelyn Tibben, 93, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Monday, April 24, 2017, at Caring Acres Nursing & Rehab in Anita, Iowa.

Ruth was born October 19, 1923, on her parents’ farm in Audubon Township, Audubon County, Iowa, the daughter of Fred W. and Anna (Hess) Vokt. Ruth was baptized and confirmed at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa. She attended rural school and graduated from the Adair High School in 1941. Following high school, Ruth taught school for two years and then taught for three years at Neola, Iowa, and one year at Oakland. Ruth then went to Cedar Falls College and received a degree in primary education.

On November 25, 1950, Ruth was married to Orville Tibben at her parents’ home. Together they bought a farm east of the “tree in the middle of the road”. They resided there for 54 years. In February of 2008, they retired and bought a home in Anita. She loved working on the farm and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Fred and Anna Vokt; her husband, Orville; her sisters, LaVere Vokt and Myrna Stevens and her husband Gaines; and her sister-in-law, Muryl Jean Vokt.

Ruth is survived by her brother, Merle Vokt of Adair, IA; sister-in-law, Betty (Lee) Tibben Clemmensen of Cedar Falls, IA; sixteen nieces and nephews; several God children; cousins and friends.

Visitation will be from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service to be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care in Anita, Iowa.

There will be a private family burial in Evergreen Cemetery in Anita, Iowa.

Memorials may be directed to Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, Iowa.
