Sandra Kay Ericksen

Sandra Kay Ericksen, the daughter of Orville R. and Sylvia Paulsen Winther, was born October 18, 1940 at her grandmother Paulsen’s home in Hamlin, Iowa and died September 20, 2011 at the Exira Care Center at the age of 70 years, 11 months and 2 days. Sandra was baptized and confirmed at the Hamlin Lutheran Church. She attended rural school Hamlin #2 and attended Audubon High School. On June 15, 1958 she was united in marriage to Eldon Arnold Ericksen at the Hamlin Lutheran Church. Six sons: Roger, Ken, Dale, Marty, Doug and Mark were born to this union. Sandra and Eldon lived most of their married life in Elk Horn, Iowa. Sandra was employed at various jobs for a short time. Sandra was very family oriented and was a homemaker most of her life. After the death of her father, Sandra and Eldon cared for her mother in their home. Sandra enjoyed her home then moved to the Exira Care Center on January 22, 2008. Sandra was a member of the Elk Horn Lutheran Church. She taught Sunday school, helped with Bible school and was a member of the Women’s Circle. Sandra had a tremendous memory and never needed a calendar to remember special dates. She enjoyed embroidering, but most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Sandra was preceded in death by her son Dale Ericksen; her grandson Michael Ericksen; her parents; her brothers-in-law and sister-in-law: Mae and husband Glenn Petersen; Richard Peters and Virgil Jensen. Survivors include her husband Eldon A. Ericksen of Lewis, Iowa; her sons: Roger and wife Deb Ericksen of Lewis; Ken and wife Vicky Ericksen of Kimballton, Iowa; Marty and wife Lisa Ericksen of Atlantic, Iowa; Doug and wife Sandee Ericksen of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; Mark and wife Teresa Ericksen of Atlantic; 22 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; her brother Merlyn and wife Sonna Winther of Spencer, Iowa; her sister Rhonda Jensen of Harlan, Iowa; her brothers-in-laws and sisters-in-law: Jim and wife Shirley Ericksen; Pola Peters all of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Nick and wife Pat Ericksen of Cincinnati, Ohio; many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Cemetery:
Interment will be in the Elk Horn Lutheran Cemetery in Elk Horn.

Visitation:
The family will meet friends Friday evening at 6:00 P.M. at the Kessler Funeral Home in Exira.

Service:
Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Keith Menter and Pastor Steven Frock on Saturday, September 24, 2011, at 10:30 A.M. at the Elk Horn Lutheran Church in Elk Horn, Iowa.
