Sara Ann Burney, 39, of Kansas City, Missouri, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Thursday, April 26, 2018, at Menorah Medical Center in Overland Park, Kansas.

Sara was born December 19, 1978, in Atlantic, Iowa, to Darrell and LuAnn (Andersen) Begley. She attended the Atlantic Schools and graduated from the Atlantic High School in 1997. She then attended Northwest Missouri State University in Maryville, Missouri, where in 1998, she met Mike Burney. She graduated in the spring of 2002. Following graduation, Sara was employed at ADT until health issues prevented her from working.

On May 31, 2003, Sara married Michael Burney in Kansas City, Missouri.

She had been a member of the FFA and 4-H. Sara loved to read. She also enjoyed scrapbooking, playing pool, traveling, swimming and teaching swimming lessons. Sara was a Certified Rescue Diver. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Howard and Helen Begley and her maternal grandfather, Bernard Andersen.

Sara is survived by her husband, Michael Burney of Kansas City, MO; her parents, Darrell and LuAnn Begley of Atlantic, IA; her parents-in-law, Larry and Carol Burney of Kansas City, MO; a sister, Dawn (Donald) Dreager of Atlantic, IA; a brother, Chad (Haley) Begley of Ankeny, IA; nieces and nephews, Dawson, Derek, Dustin and Dayna Dreager of Atlantic, IA and Rylie, Briar and Noah Begley of Ankeny, IA; her maternal grandmother, Joan Andersen of Atlantic, IA; and many aunts, uncles, cousins and other relatives and friends.

Visitation with family will be from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday, May 3, 2018, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, IA. Burial will be in Southlawn Memory Gardens in Atlantic, IA.

A visitation will also be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2018, at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church, 9420 James A Reed Road, Kansas City, MO 64138.

Memorials may be left to the family’s wishes. Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
