Terry L. Carr, 64, of Anita, Iowa, passed away Saturday morning, September 2, 2006, at his home.
Terry Lee Carr was born March 6, 1942, in Hampton, Iowa, the son of Marvin and Eileen (Archambault) Carr.
Terry grew up in Hampton, Iowa, and graduated from Hampton High School in 1960. He attended Westmar College and State College of Iowa, where he earned his Bachelors Degree in Education and History.
He was in the United States Army during Vietnam serving from December of 1963 to November of 1968, and was honorably discharged. In the Army, he was a Bulgarian Language Specialist and sharpshooter.
On April 14, 1978, Terry married Devon Ann Mardesen in Griswold, Iowa.
Terry was currently employed by the U.S. Postal Service in Clive, Iowa, where he had been working for the past 15 years. Prior to his years at the Post Office, he was a Southwest Iowa probation officer for many years.
He was a member of the Atlantic Jaycees and a member of the Anita City Council.
Terry is survived by his wife, Devon of Anita, Iowa; his daughter Megan Ann Samples and her husband, Jeremy of Adair, Iowa; two sons, Cody Mardesen Carr of Des Moines, Iowa and Cory Emerson Carr of Patterson, Iowa; granddaughters Kydie Ann Christine and Brylee Orene both of Adair, Iowa; his mother, Eileen Carr of Hampton, Iowa; brothers, Brock Carr and his wife, Mel of Jefferson City, Missouri and Kris Carr of Hampton, Iowa; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Kenneth Carr; brother, Dennis Carr; his Archambault and Carr grandparents; and his father and mother-in-law, Mike and Barb Mardesen.
Terry had donated his body to the Des Moines University, School of Medicine, and a memorial service with military rites will be held at 1:30 p.m., Wednesday, September 6, 2006 at the Congregational United Church of Christ in Anita, Iowa.
Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Anita, Iowa, is in charge of the arrangements.
