Vada E. Caltrider, 85, of Adair, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, July 2, 2006, at Midland Community Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska.
Vada Elsie Caltrider was born on April 14, 1921, in rural Cass County, near Anita, Iowa, to William Adolph and Amelia Magdeline (Wahlert) Huss.
She grew up in Adair and attended school there, graduating from Adair High School in 1938.
Vada was married to Donald J. Caltrider at the Adair Immanuel Lutheran Church on December 23, 1942, and they were the parents of Larry, Linda, Lynn, Leanne and Lyle.
Besides being the manager at the Stuart Motor Lodge for nine years, she was a country school teacher, worked for the Centers Bureau five different times, assistant desk clerk at the Adair Motor Lodge and assistant manager for congregate meals.
Vada was a longtime and active member of the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair. While a member she taught Sunday school, served as an assistant organist, a member of the LWML and supported Hope Ministries.
She was a member of the Happy Hour Club. Vada was also supportive of the disabled Veterans. She was a Published Iowa Author.
Vada is survived by sons, Larry Caltrider of Altoona, Iowa and Lynn Caltrider of Denver, Colorado; daughters, Linda Brock and her husband, Ron of Dayton, Ohio and Leanne Knudsen and her husband, Paul of Glenwood, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews; and three sister-in-laws, Dorothy and Norma Caltrider, both of Adair and Virginia Caltrider of Menlo, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband Donald, in 1971; son Lyle in 1979; brother Edward in 1929; and her sisters Ethelyn Hopkins, Helen Stroeber and Leona Barnhouse.
Visitation will be from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m., Thursday, July 6, 2006, at the Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair, with the family present from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 7, 2006, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Adair, Iowa.
Burial will be in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Adair.
Memorials may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church or the Adair Volunteer Fire Department.
Hockenberry-Mullen Funeral Home in Adair, Iowa, is in charge of arrangements.
