Verla Marjorie Huffman

Verla Marjorie Huffman, the daughter of Edward and Anna (Jeppesen) Lund, was born January 15, 1931, at her parents’ home near Kimballton, Iowa and died May 3, 2019, at the Friendship Home in Audubon, Iowa at the age of 88 years, 3 months, and 18 days.
Verla was baptized at the Bethany Lutheran Church northeast of Kimballton and confirmed at the Exira Lutheran Church in Exira, Iowa. She attended rural Audubon County schools then graduated from the Audubon High School with the Class of 1949.
On August 12, 1949, she was united in marriage to Lyle C. Huffman in Hiawatha, Kansas. They were blessed with five children: Donald, Roger, Pamela, Steve, and Joel. Verla helped Lyle farm, where they grew row crops and raised livestock. She also worked in the Dietary Department at the Audubon County Memorial Hospital for a number of years. Later, Verla was employed at the Friendship Home in Audubon where she worked in the Dietary Department until she retired in 1993. Verla lived on the farm for a short time after Lyle died on November 5, 1993. She moved into Audubon in 1996. She lived in Audubon for eight years then moved to Oklahoma in 2004 and lived near her son Steve. Later, in 2015, she relocated to San Antonio, Texas where she lived with her daughter, then returned to Audubon on September 6, 2016 to reside in the Friendship Home.
Verla was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. She enjoyed playing cards and spending time with her children, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Preceding her in death was her husband Lyle C. Huffman; her son Donald Huffman; her parents Edward and Anna Lund; her mother-in-law and father-in law Charles and Nina Huffman; and her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Richard Smith, Betty Lund, Raymon Dreher, Guy Huffman, and Wayne and wife Evelyn Huffman.
Survivors include her children Roger and wife Sandra Huffman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Pamela and husband John Abate of Helotes, Texas, Steve and wife Sally Huffman of Blanchard, Oklahoma, and Joel and wife Chris Huffman of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; her 12 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; her sister Marilyn Smith of Des Moines, Iowa; her brother Marvin Lund of Waterloo, Iowa; her sisters-in-law and brother-in-law Mildred Dreher of Audubon, Iowa, Bev Huffman of Texas, and Jerry and wife Shirley Huffman of Spirit Lake, Iowa; nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
The family will meet with friends Monday morning, May 6, 2019, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of the service at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon, Iowa. Funeral services will be conducted by Pastor Kathy Kluis on Monday, May 6, 2019, at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Audubon. Interment will be in the Arlington Heights Cemetery in Audubon. The honorary casket bearers will be Aaron and Brenda Huffman, Gilbert and Shantel Santana, Nichole, Ryan and Whitney Huffman, Dustin and Mary Huffman, Letisha and Clay Roepke, Jessica Gamble, Justin and Jordan Huffman, Tim and Kaoru Clark, Scott Clark, and Megan Keith. The casket bearers will be Roger Huffman, Steve Huffman, Joel Huffman, Ryan Huffman, Dustin Huffman, Justin Huffman, Jordan Huffman, Aaron Huffman, Tim Clark, and Shawn Deist.
