Verna Zimmerman

Verna Zimmerman, age 85, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away on Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Cass Health in Atlantic, Iowa.

Funeral Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 29, 2025 at Zion Lutheran Church in Atlantic, with Pastor Kyle McBee officiating. Burial will follow at the Atlantic Cemetery. A luncheon will be held at the Church following the burial.

The family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday at the Church.

Verna Lucille Zimmerman, the daughter of Gerald W. and Rose E. (McKeane) Wittmuss was born on November 24, 1939, in Griswold, Iowa. Verna attended school in Atlantic, after she worked hard waitressing and housekeeping while raising her five children.

Verna married her soulmate Rick Zimmerman in December of 2000, embracing religion as a cornerstone of their marriage. Verna and Rick have resided in Atlantic throughout their marriage.

Many of her favorite times were spent visiting her family. Verna was an excellent cook and used her great sense of humor to heckle telemarketers. Verna loved potato salad, enjoyed word search games and jigsaw puzzles.

Verna is survived by her husband, Rick Zimmerman of Atlantic; children: Terry (Kris) Bicking of Elk Horn, Nebraska, Sheri Bicking of Omaha, Nebraska, Gary (Nancy) Bicking of Blair, Nebraska and Jerry (Michelle) Bicking of Fremont, Nebraska; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings: Richard Wittmuss of Atlantic, Delores Hoover of Atlantic, Gerald Lowell Wittmuss of Omaha, Nebraska and Sharon Wittmuss of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Donna (Mike) Brahms of Griswold, Iowa, Cindy (Tim) Anderson of Madrid, Iowa and Mary (Dennis) Murphy of Atlantic, along with many other relatives and friends.

Preceding Verna in death were her parents, Gerald and Rose; son, Larry Bicking; sister, Shirley Ress and brother-in-law, Kenny Rees.
