Vi Irene Kunce

Vi Irene Kunce, age 80, formerly of Audubon, passed away on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, at The New Homestead in Guthrie Center, IA.

Vi Irene Kunce was born September 8,1945 in Carroll, Iowa to Hugh McCrea and Violet (Sprecher) McCrea. She grew up in Lohrville and then the family moved to Scranton, where she graduated in 1963. In June of 1963 she married Ron Kunce. They made their home primarily in Scranton and Jefferson. Two daughters were born of this union, Viki and Rhonda.

Irene was primarily a housewife and did farm chores. In 1993 they moved to their house in Audubon due to Ron's job at West Central Co-op. At 50 years old, Irene went to nursing school and became an LPN. She worked as a nurse until her retirement. She loved to watch NASCAR races with my Ron, playing cards with their friends and collecting Coca-Cola memorabilia. After Ron passed away in 2019, she moved to The New Homestead.

She is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, brothers, and in-laws. She is survived by her daughters, Viki (Tom) Moore, Rhonda (Mike) Shriver, her grandchildren Jennifer (Craig) Lundgren, Melissa (Chayse) Hudson, Michaela Shriver (Tyler Olmstead), Heather (Phillip) Holmes, her great grandchildren, great-great grandchildren and her grandson and his family.

A visitation with family will be held at from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., on Saturday, August 15, 2026, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Audubon.

A interment will take place at Jefferson Cemetery in Jefferson, Iowa.
