Victor Norman Doonan, Jr., the son of Victor, Sr. and Delores (Robertson) Doonan, was born on August 15, 1960 in Harlan, Iowa and died November 29, 2019 at his home in Brayton, Iowa at the age of 59 years, 3 months, and 14 days.
Victor attended the Exira Community Schools in Exira, Iowa graduating with the High School Class of 1979. Following graduation, Victor enlisted in the United States Army. He often liked to joke that he called the Marines but they wouldn’t answer the phone, so he joined the United States Army, serving two terms: first as an M.P and second as a mechanic. Both times he was stationed in Germany, where he and his first wife Sheryl had two daughters: Samantha and Rachel.
After being honorably discharged, he lived in Texas, where he and Susan had one son: Anthony. After spending a short time in Tennessee, he eventually made his way back to Iowa. Victor settled in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and spent more than 20 years there, where he met the love of his life, Tammy Rutherford, and became Dad to Tammy’s two sons: Anthony and Alex.
Victor enjoyed working 10 years at City Carton Recycling. After becoming disabled due to a spinal fusion, he devoted himself to P.A.D.S. and helping any veteran he met with directions and referrals to any organization that could help them out.
The last three years he spent living in Brayton with his wife Tammy and enjoying his days with their four dogs and one cat.
Victor was very proud to be a dad, a grandpa, a member of P.A.D.S., a veteran, a member of the Spirit Lake Nation and, most of all, to be a Doonan from Exira, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Delores and Victor Doonan, Sr. and his infant twin brothers, Donald and Ronald Doonan.
Victor is survived by his wife Tammy Rutherford of Brayton; two daughters: Samantha Doonan of Irwin, Iowa and Rachel and husband Loren Falk of South Dakota; three sons: Anthony Doonan, Anthony and wife Angelita Rutherford, and Alexander Rutherford, all of Cedar Rapids; grandchildren: Madison, Macey, Makaylah, Michael, Evan, Tesla, Reesa, Lance, Heaven, Adalyn, Aurora, and Karma; four sisters: Andrea and husband Gene Crane, Diane and husband Mitch Munch, Margaret and husband Mike Haley, and Lori Doonan, all of Exira; aunt and uncle Verle and wife Cookie Doonan of Elk Horn, Iowa; mother-in-law Roberta Daylen of Eldridge, Iowa; father-in-law Gene Rutherford of Cedar Rapids; brothers- and sisters-in-law: Chris Rutherford of Woodhull, Illinois; Carrie and husband Kevin Witt of Davenport, Iowa; and Daniel Whited of Chicago, Illinois; special friend Kelly Dost of Vinton, Iowa; nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
