Virginia Farley

Virginia "Virgie" Farley, 64, of Atlantic, Iowa, died Monday, May 23, 2016, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic.

Virgie was born September 15, 1951, in Lawrence, Kansas, to Waldron and Sybil (Converse) Farley. She grew up in Casey, Iowa, even though she felt that her roots were in Kansas. Virgie graduated from the Guthrie Center High School in 1971.
After graduation, Virgie moved to Atlantic where she was a resident until the time of her death. She was married to Jim Houston in 1985 at the First Baptist Church in Atlantic. Virgie worked at Cass Inc., where she did a variety of jobs.

She was a member of the First Baptist Church and she also enjoyed services at Atlantic Specialty Care. Virgie enjoyed going camping and fishing, making crafts, doing needle work and cross stitching, cooking and baking, playing cards with family and friends, and collecting angels, elephants and tea pots.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; her husband, Jim Houston; her siblings, Beverly Head, Beth Atkinson, Lyle Farley and two brothers in infancy; brothers-in-law, Bob Hardman and Wade Head; and a nephew, Josh Sheeder.

Virgie is survived by five brothers, Wayne Farley of Anita, IA, Jim (Marti Ann) Farley of Bronson, KS, Raymond (Oleta) Farley of St. Scott, KS, Stephen (Patty) Farley of Glendale, AZ and Roger Farley; five sisters, Toni (Jerry) Plowman of Ellensburg, WA, Barb (Tom) Winter of Avondale, AZ, Elaine Hardman of Ottumwa, IA, Jacquie (Darrell) Sheeder of Atlantic, IA and Laura Johnson of Columbus, KS; many nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews and one great-great niece.

There will be no formal funeral, however, a celebration of life gathering will be held from 5:00 - 7:00 p.m., Tuesday May 31, 2016, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials to family's wishes is preferred.
