Vivian R. Christensen Hines, 83, passed away Sunday, September 17, 2006, at the Cass County Memorial Hospital in Atlantic, Iowa.
Vivian Ruth was born March 6, 1923, in Kendleville, Indiana, the daughter of Leeland and Inez Long.
She moved to California in 1944. In 1947, Vivian met Robert Christensen and the couple was married on June 10, 1947, in Kansas City, Missouri. That same year, they moved to the Atlantic area of Iowa where she lived the remainder of her life.
Robert passed away in 1984, and in 1986, Vivian married Larry Hines in Council Bluffs, Iowa. He preceded her in death in 2003.
Vivian worked for several years at the Cass County Memorial Hospital and the former Van's Chat and Chew in Atlantic to help support her family.
She was a 20-plus year member of the Atlantic Seventh-Day Adventist Church.
Vivian also belonged to the Women's D.A.V. and was the Commander for 2 years. She was also active in the Boy Scouts for several years.
Vivian is remembered by her family as a loving and supportive wife, mother, and grandmother, as well as being a dedicated hard worker.
She is survived by her two sons, Robert "Bob" Christensen and John L. Christensen, both of Atlantic, Iowa; her granddaughter, Shelby Herrera and her husband, Hector of Midland, Texas, and their children, Ava and Andon; her grandson, Adam Christensen and his fiancé Monica Steen of Des Moines, Iowa; two sisters, Jo Rowland and her husband, Tom of Henderson, Nevada, and Pat Meier and her husband, Frank of Lancaster, California.
Vivian was preceded in death by her siblings, Violet, Veda, George, and Billy; her parents, Leeland and Inez Long; her first husband of 37 years, Robert A. Christensen, and her second husband of 17 years, Larry Hines.
A memorial service for Vivian will be held at 1:30 p.m., Thursday, September 21, 2006, in the chapel at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic with Pastor Curtis Denney of the Atlantic Seventh-Day Adventist Church officiating.
Vivian's ashes will be buried in the Atlantic Cemetery, Atlantic, Iowa, and no visitation is scheduled.
A fellowship and luncheon will follow in the Community Room at Hockenberry's.
