Warren Hutchinson

Warren “Hutch” Hutchinson, 96, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away November 25, 2018.

Hutch was born at home May 16, 1922, near Loretto, Nebraska, to Albert and Neva (Barnes) Hutchinson. He grew up on his parent’s farm near Albion and walked 1 1/2 miles to school every day until he graduated Albion High School in 1939. He graduated from the University of Nebraska in 1943 with a degree in Animal Husbandry. He was a proud member of Farmhouse fraternity.

Hutch was honored to serve his country in the Navy from 1942-46. His active duty was in the Philippines. One of his toughest memories was spending two consecutive Christmas holidays 7800 miles from home.

Hutch married Helen Tisthammer August 24, 1952, at South Branch Lutheran Church in Boone County, Nebraska. He had a very successful career as a regional sales manager mentoring Walnut Grove salesman in the art of recruiting loyal customers. He was promoted to Swine product manager and moved his family to Atlantic in 1960.

He was a member of the Methodist church his entire life and served as an usher. He was a past president of the Atlantic Golf and Country Club. He especially enjoyed dancing with his wife Helen. Hutch also enjoyed his friends in Rotary, Cyber Investors Club, the Board of Directors of the Albion National Bank, Shriners, VFW and American Legion. As we all know, he was an avid Husker fan and season ticket holder for 50 years. He loved making people smile by telling jokes and stories to everyone. He was very proud of his three children and eight grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Warren is survived by the love of his life, Helen; children, Larry (Kim) Hutchinson of Denver, CO, Diane (Ross) Bjella of Whitefish Bay, WI, and Barb (David) Hutchinson of Portland, OR. His beloved grandchildren are Connor, Marley and Kara Hutchinson, Jon, Alex and Alida Beck, Anders and Braden Bjella.

Visitation with family will be from 11:00 a.m. until time of services at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018, at the First United Methodist Church in Atlantic, IA.

Burial will be Saturday, December 22, 2018, at 9:30 a.m., in the Atlantic Cemetery with military rites by the Atlantic Color Guard and the Navy Honor Guard, Des Moines, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the First United Methodist Church or the Atlantic Memorial Hospital.
