Wayne Debord

October 29, 1923 — January 8, 2016

Wayne Elwood DeBord, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 8, 2016, at his home south of Atlantic, Iowa.

Wayne was born October 29, 1923, in Brighton Township, Cass County, Iowa, to Arlie E. and Dorotha (Davis) DeBord. He attended the Marne School. Wayne then farmed in Cass County with his parents who settled on a farm south of Atlantic which Wayne purchased upon his parent's retirement.

After serving 3 1/2 years in the Navy, he returned from the South Pacific where he was stationed during WWII. Wayne was honorably discharged in February of 1946. On October 9, 1946, he married Betty E. Andersen at the Evangelical and Reform Church in Atlantic. Together they began farming in the Atlantic area and in 1963, Wayne and Betty moved to their home farm where they continued to raise their children. After retirement in 1985, he still assisted in the farm operation, even helping with harvest this past October.

Wayne was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, VFW Post 3415, Masonic Pymosa Lodge #271, Za Ga Zig Shrine, and Farm Bureau.

Family and farming were his life. He enjoyed his trip to Washington, D.C. on the Iowa Honor Flight. Visiting the WWII Memorial was a highlight and he loved sharing his memories of that trip. He also enjoyed trips to the casino and playing cards with friends, sharing stories at coffee time, watching RFD TV, and had a love for dogs, especially his last, Buster.

Preceding Wayne in death were his parents, Arlie & Dorotha DeBord; brother, Edward DeBord; sisters, Jean Anderson and Arlene Strickland; father/mother-in-law, Bill and Anna Andersen; and brother and sister-in-law, Wilbert and Janis Andersen.
