William Lassen

William “Bill” Rohwer Lassen, 95, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, and formerly of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017, at Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs.

Bill was born to Will and Anna (Rohwer) Lassen on August 18, 1921, in Bear Grove Township in Cass County, Iowa. He graduated with the class of 1938 from Atlantic High School. On October 17, 1948, Bill was united in marriage to LuElla D. Leslie.

He was a lifelong farmer and raised purebred Holstein dairy cattle. Bill was a member of the Farm Bureau and the Cass Montgomery Dairy Herd Improvement Association for several years and a member of the Omaha Eagle Club. He and LuElla were also members of the Council Bluffs dance club where they loved to go dancing. Bill was an avid Chicago Cubs and Iowa Hawkeye fan. He also took pride in being a volunteer at the Council Bluffs Senior Center.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Terri Sue Berry; a grandson, Jeremy L. McKinnon and a great grandson, Michael W. McKinnon.

Bill is survived by his wife of 68 years, LuElla Lassen of Council Bluffs, IA; a daughter, Vicki R. (David T.) Kyle of Tarkio, MO; a grandson, Marcus H. McKinnon of Jenks, OK; a granddaughter, Lindsay Berry of Lakewood, CO; great grandchildren, Kaylyn R. McKinnon of Cameron, MO and Matthew F. McKinnon of Jenks, OK; a sister-in-law, Colleen J. Sunderman of Atlantic, IA and a son-in-law, Donald Berry of Lakewood, CO.

An open visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m., Thursday, July 13, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 14, 2017, at the Atlantic Cemetery in Atlantic, Iowa.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to the family.
