Wilma Fagan

Wilma Margaret Fagan, 89, of Adair, IA, passed away Thursday, November 16, 2017, at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, IA.

Wilma was born March 18, 1928, in rural Adair County, near Stuart, IA, to Charles Leo and Lura (Nelson) Wagner. She attended school in Adair County, and graduated from the Greenfield High School in 1946.

She was married to William (Bill) Reed Fagan on April 8, 1947, at St. John’s Catholic Church in Greenfield, IA. Wilma farmed with Bill for 13 years in the Greenfield area. In 1960, they moved to Adair, IA, where she did volunteer work and was very active with the parish life of St. John Catholic Church. Wilma also worked for the City of Adair and for the funeral home in Adair, IA. She was a lifetime resident of Adair County.

Wilma was a member of St. John Catholic Church. She was a caring and compassionate person who gave comfort to everyone.

Wilma enjoyed spending time with her family and getting to know her grand and great-grandchildren.

Family favorites from Grandma’s kitchen were sugar cookies, carmel corn, fudge, pies and her gravy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, William (Bill) in 2009; her sisters, Mary Ellen Anderson, Alice Griswold and Gertrude Langlet; and a brother, Martin Wagner.

Wilma is survived by her children, Rose (John) Meredith of Fort Calhoun, NE, Robert (Diana) Fagan of Manning, IA, Rita (James) Frie of La Crescent, MN, and Shirley Fagan of Urbandale, IA; seven grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a sister, Cleo (Larry) Gipple of Charlotte, NC; a sister-in-law, Emily Wagner of Stuart, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

Visitation with family will be from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., with a Rosary at 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 19, 2017, at Hockenberry Family Care Funeral Home in Adair, IA.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 20, 2017, at St. John Catholic Church in Adair, IA, with burial in St. John Catholic Cemetery in Adair, IA.

Memorials may be left to the family’s wishes to be designated at a later date.
