Mr. Charles Misner

August 4, 1970 — August 26, 2022

Charles “Charlie” Jacob Misner, 52, a loving husband, father, and brother entered into eternal rest on Friday, August 26, 2022, surrounded by loved ones after a long battle with cancer.

Charlie entered the world on August 4, 1970, son of Charles “Laverne” and Betty (Schmitt) Misner of Marne, Iowa. Charlie was the youngest of six children. While in high school, Charlie enlisted in the Army National Guard. He graduated from Atlantic High School in 1989. Charlie and Deb (Waters) Misner joined in marriage on May 11th, 1991, and to this union, four children were born; Jessica Noel, Kristen Diane, Hannah Sue, and Brandon James. For 20 years, Charlie served in the Army National Guard 168 Infantry and was deployed to Afghanistan in 2004. After returning from Afghanistan, Charlie completed the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy and became a Cass County Sheriff’s deputy. Charlie enjoyed helping his children throughout their 4-H careers raising and showing different livestock.

On October 30, 2016, he united in marriage with Stacey (Peterson) Misner. Into this marriage, Stacey brought three children. In February 2017, Charlie was diagnosed with Stage 4 RCC and began his battle against cancer. He retired from Montgomery County Secondary Roads in 2018. Over several years, Charlie was an active member of the Griswold Legion, Griswold and Elliott Fire Departments, and Griswold Sports Boosters. Charlie was a strong, hard-working man that truly loved his family and spending time with them, and his greatest joy was his grandchildren.

Charlie is survived by his wife, Stacey Misner of Atlantic, IA; his children Jessica (Steven) DeLage of Griswold, IA, Kristen (Josh) Alexander of Griswold, IA, Hannah Misner of Griswold, IA, Brandon Misner of Elliott, IA, Joe (Monica Carlson) Schmitt of Marne, IA, Cody Schmitt of Council Bluffs, IA, and Bethany Schmitt of Indianola, IA; his parent-in-laws Paul and Mary Peterson of Atlantic, IA; his sister Diane (Chuck) Anderson of Marne, IA, his twin sister Donna Haler of Atlantic, IA, and his brothers Jim Misner of Omaha, NE, and Jon Misner of Columbus, NE; his sister-in-law Teresa (Jay) Jordan of Gretna, NE, and brother-in-law Rob (Kari) Peterson of Wildwood, MO; his grandchildren Dax and Aurora DeLage, Charley and Marnie Alexander, Connor, Brayden, and Emma Schmitt, Korra and Kylar Christensen; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Charlie is preceded in death by his parents, Charles “Laverne" Misner and Betty Brown, his step-father, George Brown, his sister, Deb Misner, and nephew, Justin Hoeck.

Memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, September 1, 2022, at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic, IA. Committal, with military honors will be held in the Brighton Township Cemetery near Marne, IA. A luncheon will be served following the committal service in the reception room at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home.

Visitation with family present will take place on Wednesday, August 31, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Atlantic.

Memorials may be directed to the family to be designated at a later date and may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.
