Chester Duane Schoenbeck, 92, of Oakland, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 18,2021, at Atlantic Specialty Care in Atlantic, Iowa.

Chester was born July 27, 1929,in Butler, South Dakota, to John and Anne (Solberg) Schoenbeck. He attended school in Lily, SD. Not long after high school he joined the Navy and served during the Korean War from 1948 to 1952. He married Connie Sebesta at Lily Lutheran church in Lily, SD, In 1955.

Chester worked road construction and as an equipment mechanic in many states. The family settled in Oakland, IA, in 1965. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Fehrs Equipment of Omaha, NE, for 33 years. After his retirement he worked for himself.

He had a lifetime membership in the American Legion in South Dakota.

Preceding Chester in death are his parents, John and Anne Schoenbeck; brother, Donald (and Joy) Schoenbeck; sister, Doris (and Robert) Dale, and son-in-law, Stanley Metheny.

Surviving Chester is his wife, Connie Schoenbeck of Oakland,IA; son, Michael Schoenbeck of Council Bluffs, IA; daughters, Jeannie (Randal) Rudy of Anita, IA, KD Metheny of Wiota , IA, Gale (Richard) Rousey of Bowman, GA; grandchildren, Shannon (Bryce) Busby of Grimes, IA, Jason Rudy of Des Moines, IA, and Massena Rousey of Bowman, GA; and great-grandchildren, Ryker and Ayla Busby of Grimes, IA.

Chester’s wish was to be cremated without any services.

Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic, Iowa, is carrying out the cremation and assisting the family.
