1998 Devin 2022

Devin Anderson

June 21, 1998 — February 24, 2022

Devin Ray Anderson, age 23 of Shelby, Iowa, died at his home on Thursday, February 24, 2022.

Devin was born June 21, 1998, on Father’s Day and the First Day of Summer in Atlantic, IA. He lived in Atlantic and went to the Atlantic Community School District until moving to Avoca, IA after his 8th-grade year with his mom and brothers in 2012. Devin went to high school at AHSTW and was active in football, wrestling, and soccer. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends, watching movies, and going out to eat. During Devin’s sophomore year, he moved to Exira to live with his dad. Throughout high school, he was employed by Wings where he helped in the kitchen and worked as a cashier. Devin graduated from AHSTW with the Class of 2016. After graduation, Devin began working at TH Construction in Gretna, IA where he was a construction contractor for a powerline and telecommunications infrastructure. Devin lived in Avoca on his own with several friends from 2016 to 2020. In 2020 he moved to Brayton by himself for a short period of time and began working at A.M. Cohron & Son, Inc. where he did bridge construction. In April 2021, Devin moved back in with his mother in Avoca and the following August they moved to Shelby, IA. Devin went back to his previous job at TH Construction which is where he worked until he passed away. Devin was a very hard worker and rarely missed a day of work or called in sick.

As a child, Devin was a very fun, happy, and outgoing kid. He loved to watch movies and play his PlayStation. He loved animals especially his dog Foxy Roxy. He also loved going to watch his grandpa Jeff race stock cars on weekends. Devin was very close with his grandparents and great-grandparents on both his maternal and paternal sides. Although he lived with his mom in the Atlantic, he visited his dad on weekends in Brayton/ Exira. He loved going swimming during the summer months and spent a lot of time with his mom at the pool when they weren’t at the racetrack. He was 9 years old when he became a big brother to Drake and Drew and Owen. He was always helping his mom with his brothers, and they looked up to him and loved him very much.

As Devin got older, and moved to the Avoca Community, he was always treated as if he had lived there his entire life. He had friends that were like brothers and all of them were very close. He and his friends were always doing something to stay busy like most 23-year-old kids. For a period of time, they hit every Escape Room in Omaha & Des Moines and I believe they escaped them all within the allotted time. They frequently went to the city to eat at different restaurants or bar hopping. They attended Iowa Hawkeye Football games and most recently Chiefs vs Cowboys at Arrowhead Stadium. Devin was a HUGE Dallas Cowboys fan and loved the Iowa Hawkeyes as well. Generally, on football Sunday he was at a friends’ house watching football games. Devin loved to play football, watch football, and talk football. During the summer months, Devin went golfing a lot with friends and with his dad. He also played slow-pitch softball every 4th of July in Exira with his dad’s family. He never missed the annual Freeman Ride and if there was a party bus you can bet Devin was invited to be on it. He enjoyed boating vacations with his dad and family in Branson and skiing in Wisconsin. He had recently been excited about a trip he had planned in April with friends to go to Texas. Devin was an all-around outgoing and fun-loving person to be around, to say the least. To say he was a good kid is an understatement. He was kind, loyal, loving, and would literally do anything for anyone. His family and his friends were important to him, and it showed in everything he did.

Devin was survived by his parents Brooke Anderson of Shelby, Iowa, and Brian and Erin Juhl of Exira, Iowa, his siblings Drake and Drew Anderson and Shelby and Owen Juhl. Grandparents, Jeffrey and Carol Anderson of Atlantic, Iowa, Cindy and Howard Paulsen of Brayton, Iowa, Tom and Betty Wiemann of Exira, Iowa.
