Eugene Christensen

Eugene H. Christensen, 78, of Atlantic, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the Creighton University Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska.
Eugene Harvey Christensen was born December 27, 1927 in Avoca, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Anne (Schneider) Christensen.
He graduated from the Atlantic High School, Atlantic, Iowa, in 1945.
On February 23, 1946, Gene married Inez Mae Irish in Atlantic, Iowa. She passed away on October 31, 1993.
He served his country in the United States Navy during WWII.
Gene worked for New King Electric in Atlantic and when the former owner, Chris Fuhlendorf retired, Gene purchased the business and renamed it Gene's New King Electric. He retired in 1989.
Gene was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic, the Atlantic Elk's Lodge # 445 as well as the Nishna Hills Golf Club in Atlantic.
He enjoyed playing golf and was an avid viewer of the "Golf Channel" on television. He also liked to watch game shows on television, but will be best remembered as a helper. Gene would help anyone in the community with any project and many times he would repair appliances for free when a family could not afford to pay.
Gene is survived by his two sons, Don Christensen and his wife, Sheran of Hodgenville, Kentucky and Gail Christensen and his wife, Teresa of Omaha, Nebraska; his daughter, Connie May and her husband, Ross of Exira, Iowa; his grandchildren, Tim, David, Matt, Sheila, Melissa, Jerry, Kevin, Laura, Rita, Paul, Molly and Sam. He is also survived by his step-mother, Doris Kankey of Riverside, California; his sister-in-law, Bernice Gaines of Atlantic, Iowa; a brother-in-law, Marvin Osborn of Avoca, Iowa, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Harvey and Anne Christensen; his wife, Inez Christensen; a sister, Virginia Osborn; and a brother and sister, both in infancy.
Public visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m. Friday at Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic where the family will be present from 7:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Friday evening.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 13, 2006 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Atlantic with the Reverend Dennis Meyer officiating.
Committal services and interment will be in the Atlantic Cemetery followed by a fellowship and luncheon at St. Paul's Lutheran Church.
Hockenberry Family Care in Atlantic is assisting the family with the arrangements.
