Mrs. Nancy Rourick

Nancy Ann Rourick, age 89 of Ankeny, formerly of Atlantic, passed away on Tuesday, May 10, 2022, at MercyOne Hospital in Des Moines, IA.

Nancy Ann Nelson was born March 1, 1933, on the family farm north of Atlantic, Iowa to Gale B. and V. Beatrice (Prettie) Nelson. Nancy experienced hardship early in her life as her mother passed when she was thirteen and she was raised by her father with her two brothers Dick and Jim.

Nancy was united in marriage to Franklin Joseph Rourick on January 23, 1951. They met at the local roller-skating rink and enjoyed over 50 years of marriage together. They settled in Atlantic and had seven children, five boys and two girls.

Nancy worked for many years at Heritage House, Spurgeon’s Department Store, and Wells Fargo Bank in Atlantic. She was an active member at Saints Peter and Paul Catholic Church. In her retirement, she enjoyed gardening with Frank and spending time with her family. Nancy was a gifted sewer, knitter, cross stitcher, quilter, and crocheter. She made several memorable gifts for family members including wall quilts, cross-stitch sayings & pictures, dolls & stuffed bears. Each grandchild was gifted a quilt that was hand quilted when they graduated from high school. Every Christmas she made something special for each family member. She enjoyed creating outfits for her granddaughters and her crocheted hangers were a family favorite. She loved being a grandmother and great-grandmother. Her freezer was always full of homemade rolls, muffins, sugar cookies, monster cookies, chocolate chip cookies, molasses cookies, and chocolate cupcakes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers, an infant brother, and an infant sister, her husband Franklin, her daughter Teresa Klyn and her son Kelly Rourick. She is survived by her children Patrick (Linda) Rourick, Rebecca (Andy) Siska, Timothy (Kimberly) Rourick, Shawn (Christine) Rourick, Thomas (Londa) Rourick; and her grandchildren Meghan (Ted), Brendan (Jamie), Blaine, Scott, Aubrey (Brian), Anna, Ryan (Christy), Blake (Hannah), Tyler, Gracelyn (David), Ava, Bridgette (Cody), Cassidy (Zach), Darby (Rob), Sullivan, Shane, and Sloan; her great-grandchildren Declan, Kiernan, Matthew, Peyton, Preston, Jonathan, Riley, Connor, and Amelia. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Winnie Broswell-Nelson, son-in-law Wayne Klyn and daughter-in-law Tracy Rourick.

A memorial mass will be held on Friday, July 22, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. with a visitation held one hour prior at Saint Peter & Paul Catholic Church in Atlantic, IA.

Burial will be held at the Atlantic Catholic Cemetery, with luncheon to follow at Saint Peter & Paul Catholic Church Parrish Center.
