Ruby Wortman

Ruby Viola Wortman, age 105, of Adair, Iowa, passed away Tuesday, August 31, 2021, at Allen Place in Atlantic, IA.

Ruby was born February 9, 1916, in Grand Township, Guthrie County, IA, the daughter of Christian Edward Wahlert and Bertha Katherine Hammond. She attended Adair High School graduating with the class of 1934.

On June 30, 1937, at the Immanuel Lutheran Church she married Arthur Charles Wortman. Together, the family farm south of Adair, IA, where for many years Ruby played a very active roll on the farm. She was known to help Arthur with milking cows and working the fields. Within the home she was a devoted mother and homemaker. She enjoyed quilting, cooking, gardening, canning, and baking her special homemade bread and rhubarb pies and crisps.

Ruby was 80-year active member of the Holy Cross Lutheran Church where she was involved in numerous clubs and committees.

Preceding her in death was her husband Arthur, her parents, few siblings Opal Wheatley, Harold Wahlert, Dean Wahlert; son in laws, Jim Olsen and Eric Wortman.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children Robert (Colette) Wortman of Urbandale, IA, Dolores Olsen of Wiota, IA, Darlene Grace of Adair, IA, Ronald (Pat) Wortman of Park Rapids, MN, Donna (Mike) Wiedmann of Norwalk, IA, Denise (Brian) Ward of San Diego, CA, Deanna Wortman of Johnston, IA, 18 grandkids; 21 great-grand kids; 3 great-great-grand kids; 3 step-grand kids; and a sister, Lois Vandivort of Mountain Grove, MO.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 4, 2021, at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Anita, IA. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the funeral also held at the church Burial will be held at Sunnyhill Cemetery in Adair, IA. Lunch will be provided after the committal and will be held at the Anita Community Center.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Wortman family to designate to charities at a later date.
