1977 Mrs. 2023

Mrs. Shannon Billheimer

September 7, 1977 — April 1, 2023

Mrs. Shannon Elaine Billheimer, age 45, of Adair, IA, passed away on Saturday, April 1, 2023.

Shannon Elaine Billheimer was born to James and Norma Cornelison on September 7, 1977, in Winterset, Iowa. Shannon lived in Lorimor as a child, where she attended Lorimor Elementary. In 1986, Shannon, along with her three brothers, moved to Aurelia, Iowa, and were raised by Dave (whom she called Vid) and her mom. In 1989 the family moved to rural Adair, where Shannon attended Guthrie Center High School, graduating with the class of 1995. There she ran track and cross country, breaking several school records and earning herself trips to the state meet.

Shannon met Ryan in the summer of 96, and on January 20, 2000, they got married. Of that union came three boys: Cale, Clay, and Finn. In 2010, Shannon was given the opportunity to take over a local cleaning business, and she operated Clean Sweep until 2022.

During the last years of operating Clean Sweep, Shannon put herself through nursing school, working during the day, and studying at night, often putting in 18-20 hours a day. In 2019 Shannon graduated Summa Cum Laude from Purdue University Global with a GPA of 4.0. She passed her boards on November 18, 2019, officially becoming an RN. Shannon started her nursing career at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines. Shannon’s insatiable thirst for knowledge landed her back in school, and in 2021 she earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree. Lastly, she was a travel nurse at Woodward Resource Center.

Shannon became a hardworking and compassionate nurse. She was helped by her pursuit of perfection and a particular way of doing things. While nursing, she made many friends and would often tell stories about them. These nursing friends we now consider as family.

Shannon was a beautiful, kind, and loving mother and wife. She loved her boys and always knew what to say when they struggled. Shannon made sure her boys received equal attention, even putting in extra care to ensure she spent the same amount on their Christmas gifts. Shannon never missed one of her boy’s sporting events. Her cheers were the loudest in the crowd.

Shannon loved to read, enjoyed watching indie films, and was often seen kissing and hugging the family pets, Saphron and Bella. She cared a lot about animals and often donated to the ARL or Kiya Koda Humane Society, and Panora Pets. She and Ryan had a huge passion for music. Together they traveled across the Midwest, watching well over 100 concerts. They tried making it to Red Rocks at least once a year to catch a show. Every summer, Ryan and Shannon pulled the camper down to St. Charles, IA, turning the Hinterland Music Festival into a family vacation.

Shannon was loved by so many and will be deeply missed by her husband Ryan; her sons Cale, Clay, and Finn; their pets Saphron and Bella; her parents Dave and Norma Decker; her brothers Matt Cornelison (Guthrie Center), Josh Decker and Cole Decker (Kansas City); Grandmother Deloma Shell (Murray); and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her sister Vicki Decker, her father, James M. Cornelison, and her Grandparents, Boyd H. Nelson, George and Maurine Schmidt, Syd Shell, and Pat Cornelison.

Memorials may be directed to the Billheimer Family in honor of Shannon. They may be mailed to the Schmidt Family Funeral Home P.O. Box 523, Atlantic, IA 50022.
